Oddsmakers pick which side is more likely to win. The favorite carries a minus sign; the underdog carries a plus sign. When two sides are dead even, books call it a pick'em.

On the board: Dallas −180 means Dallas is favored; the opponent at +150 is the underdog.

A spread bet is about the margin of victory, not just who wins. The favorite must win by more than the spread number; the underdog covers by winning outright or losing by less than the number.

Dallas −4.5 needs a win by 5+. The other side covers if their team wins, or loses by 4 or fewer.

A moneyline bet is simply picking the winner. The number shows the price: minus numbers say how much is risked to win 100, plus numbers say how much 100 wins.

−200 risks 200 to win 100. +200 wins 200 on a 100 risk. The same math scales to any amount.

The total is the combined points both teams score. The bet is whether the real game lands over or under that number — no need to guess the exact score. Land exactly on the number and the bet pushes (refunds).

A 46-point total: 47+ combined points wins the over, 45 or fewer wins the under, exactly 46 pushes.

The small number next to a line is the price of the bet, often −110. Risking 110 to win 100 is how the book takes its cut — called the juice or vig. It's why beating a coin-flip line still takes better than 50% accuracy.

On Eric's board, the Over and Under columns show this price for each side of a prop.

A prop is any bet beyond spreads, moneylines, and totals — usually one player's stat line. Books post hundreds per game, and they're harder to price than main lines, which is why prop research pays off.

Sportsbooks set prices per side; pick'em apps like PrizePicks use fixed payouts and their own projections, so their numbers can differ from a book's line for the same player. That's why this dashboard never mixes the two feeds — comparing them side by side is the research edge.

Different books post slightly different numbers for the same market. Taking the best available number — an extra half point or a better price — adds up over a season more than any single pick.

If one book has a prop at 88.5 and another at 90.5, that two-yard gap is free value for one side.

Decide the total amount set aside for entries — the bankroll — and keep each play small and consistent, commonly 1–5% of it. Flat, steady sizing survives cold streaks; chasing losses does not. Never play with money needed elsewhere.

A 100-unit bankroll at 2% per play risks 2 units on every entry, hot streak or cold.

A parlay chains several picks into one ticket for a bigger payout — but every leg must hit, and the books price them in their own favor. Fun in small doses; a poor plan as a main strategy.

Three picks that each win 55% of the time land together only about one time in six.
